Databases
What is a database? A database is a digital source of verifiable, organized content that goes beyond what you might find in a typical web search. Databases provide information and practical tools to help solve problems, enhance personal and professional skills and develop interests and hobbies. Databases include search and filter options, making it easy to find articles, reports, printable documents and eBooks.
How do I use a database? Start by clicking on one of the blue Explora buttons below or on a database name or category link. From there, navigate to menu options or a search bar to enter a topic. The Explora databases include curated topics frequently searched by a grade-level group (Public Libraries encompasses adult interests), with queries that process through several individual databases to provide results.
Databases are free to use with your WPLD library card and PIN (last 4 digits of your phone number) and can be accessed from anywhere (exceptions are noted). If you have questions about how to use a database or where to find information on a topic, call our Adult Services Desk at 630/393-1171 x121. You can also register for a one-on-one in-person appointment with a librarian or member of our support staff.
