Strategic Priority Accomplishments

The Library Board of Trustees adopted a Strategic Plan (pdf file) in mid-2004 after conducting focus groups with community residents, local government officials and library staff. The Plan consists of four "strategic priorities." In the Spring of 2006, the Board gathered to review the plan and celebrate the following accomplishments:

Priority #1 - Connect With the Community
  • Number of cardholders increased from 41% to 47%.

  • Welcomed new residents through the Chamber of Commerce with information about the library.

  • Expanded Sunday hours to year-round.

  • Added Bilingual storytimes.

Priority #2 - Build Bibliographic Resources
  • Committed 20% of the operating budget to library materials and online databases.

  • Allowed patrons to access more than 20 free e-resources from home.

  • Added 18,600 items to the collection.

  • Increased circulation by 25% over the year the plan was adopted.

Priority #3 - Implement Principals of Professionalism
  • The four principles of professionalism - Integrity, Accountability, Teamwork and Customer Service - became part of daily operation.

Priority #4 - Expand Relationships with the Library Foundation
  • Communication between the Foundation and the Library continued.
